5 Month Old Update: Triplets' Tummy Time Competition

In a blink of an eye, the beanies are 5 months old.  While it is true that things do get a bit easier as the beanies get older, new challenges arise as they continue to grow and become more conscious to their surroundings.  Below are some of the latest pictures at 5 months old.  Notice the bibs the boys are wearing?  They are gifts from a friend, who found them from the 2014 Fall One-of-a-kind Show here in Toronto. Not only they are fun to stare at, they are also made with very high quality soft cotton and fit snugly around the neck.  It is ashame that I didn't know the artist who designed these wonderful bibs, but I will highly recommend you to get it while you can!  I assure that you won't be disappointed.

At the boys' 3 months pediatrician appointment, we have been told by Dr. Vatinee that we needed to increase the time the boys spent on their tummies, which force the babies to lift their heads and subsequently strengthen their necks and upper back muscles.  Having a well supported back is crucial for the boys to sit up straight and take solid food when they reach six months.

So, what did all these added work on tummy time sounds to you?  More work, cries, drooling, spits and chores. But you have to look on the bright side!  It is a lot of photographing opportunities (cheeze and snap) while they are on their tummies.  So, how did the boys do???  Pictures mean a thousand words, so let the pictures speak for the itself.  Enjoy!

The beanies were struggling to lift their heads up.  Cedric would try to sleep through it.  Skylar would pretend to try, but not.  Ethan hated his tummy time and would cry till someone help to turn him back or pick him up.

Poor Ethan definitely hated his tummy time.  Ironically, he also was the one that required the most practices with tummy time as he was born with the largest and heaviest head

Since Ethan insisted not to practice tummy time by himself, so an assisted approach is adopted.  By holding his elbows close to his chest, but his hand underneath his head, Ethan was finally in the mood to at least try to hold his head in position - yet, he still wasn't "lifting" his head.

People often remind both Fion and I on how "FORTUNATE" we are to have 3 babies at once.  To speak the truth, the reward to all the chores in baby sittings is that we have earned the opportunity to see them interact with one another at such young age.  Of course, I won't keep this to ourselves as some of these good things are meant to share!  Below are some of the photos we snapped during these great and intimate moments.

THE TRIPLETS' TUMMY TIME COMPETITION

To this end, let's triple our power and have some triplets' fun.  Let's play a little game and have a triplets' tummy time competition!  The winner will be the one who can remain in his tummy time position the longest.  THREE, TWO, ONE, LET'S BEGIN...

3 mins passed.  Ethan is starting to look a little shaky.

At 3.5 mins, Ethan's head is down despite his BEST effort.  Ethan is out of the competition...  Poor Ethan.

Update: 4 months update [Overdue Post]

This is one overdue posting.  My apology to those who regularly follow our blog.  We were a bit caught up with some home renovations in the past few weeks.  This supposedly is a major project that Fion and I planned to undertake last year.  However, due to triplets pregnancy, the project was put on hold until this year.  I will have another update on this later.  Let's move on this post with our beanies!

Skylar @ 2 Months Old

Weight: 8 lbs 5 oz.

Skylar is the ladies-man.  He is the gem that every young lady loves.  He is a bit reserved and doesn't smile as often as his brothers.  Skylar has the most robust physical development, considering his pre-maturity.  At 4 months, he has already caught up with the development of any full term baby, perhaps just a bit light on weight. Overall, his development is considered superb!  YAY...!!!

Weight: 10 lbs 7 oz.

Cedric is our biggest boy, which is a title he took from Ethan shortly after he were born. Cedric is also our happiest boy, he is extremely intrigue and finds everything funny.  LOL.  Cedric's development is almost at par with any full term baby since the beginning.  He continues to strive and soon become the all time mommy boy!

Weight: 10 lbs 4 oz.

Ethan is the easiest going boy out of all! He is not shy at all and loves socializing with anyone that comes across his path.  His upper body strength is not as strong as his brothers, but he just LOVES to kick, especially during bath time.  He would keep kicking and splashes water all over us!

Notice the difference between the two photos above?  First thing first, the beanies pay more attention to the camera, so taking picture becomes a bit easier.  Second, the eye-to-hand coordination has improved a lot.  They are not ready to grab yet, but has show early sign of interest in anything that place in front of them. Strangely, both Skylar and Cedric got more hair and become more Mohawk like, but Ethan lost some baby hair on the sides except the batch that grow around the crown. Surprise or not a surprise, Skylar and Cedric are looking more alike as time goes.  Any other difference that you guys have noticed?

Nonetheless, all beanies appear to be able to sit snugly in their Ingenuity Chairs, unassisted.  They love to interact with each others when we place them side by side with one another.

According to Dr V. Thassanapaff, the boys are considering doing very well at this stage.  However, the one thing that they all need to work on is "TUMMY TIME".  I will write a separate post on this in the near future.
